5The Morel mushrooms shown in the listing photo were grown by me from this kit.

This is the famous North American Morel mushroom species that is commonly called Yellow morel, Gray morel, or common morel. (species: Morchella americana) mushroom grow kit is a living mushroom kit, that arrives growing inside the sealed bag. The kit is planted outdoors per the included directions.

My own Morchella americana patch was planted in 2020 under an elm tree using these methods, with a successful harvest in spring 2022. Expect morels within one to three years after planting near a suitable host tree, when shade and moist soil conditions are maintained.

To help maintain an even moisture level in the mushroom planting area and increase success rates in harsh environments, I provided the option of including a compostable, biodegradable ground cover. This material has the appearance of a black plastic sheet with 0.6 mil thickness, but unlike plastic it will compost into your soil over a 5-6 month grow season. Made of a plant-based biodegrading compound, it is certified for organic agriculture use in the European union but not yet certified organic in the USA. For highly effective plantings, use this ground cover with a soaker hose underneath it for irrigation. Prevents moisture loss, reducing the need for irrigation, while nurturing fungus beneath it.

It has been commonly said that the famous Yellow Morel mushroom is impossible to cultivate. Well I am here to tell you that the Yellow Morel mushroom can be cultivated easily, they simply take time, a correct method of planting, and suitable conditions for growth.

The planting method in the written instructions is simple to follow - all you need is a shovel and a suitable nearby tree host, such as elm, apple, cottonwood, ash, or tulip poplar. Sycamore and oak are also possible host trees, but less favorable.

With this method, a "handful" of spawn is used at each spot that is dug near the host tree. It is difficult to say how much coverage the  Regular or Large sized kits will sow. A handful of spawn weighs around 2 ounces.

  • Regular size kits contain approximately 2.5 lbs of spawn
  • Large size kits contain approximately 7 lbs of spawn, which is almost 3 times the amount of the Regular size kit.

This is a pure culture isolate of Morchella americana, grown on sterilized substrate in your sealed mushroom kit. It takes on average 35 days for a newly-created kit to be fully colonized before it can be used. The mushroom kit may be held up to 6 months in refrigerated conditions for long-term storage - don't freeze.

Kits are created at the time the order is received.
• at 2 weeks, white mycelium appears and begins to spread
• at 4 weeks, rapid growth and full colonization of the growing kit contents, plant when fully colonized.

Ask me anything - friendly growing support is always provided free with purchase of my Easy-to-grow mushroom growing kits.

Plan to plant outdoors during Spring-Summer-Fall, at least one month before a winter freeze.

One of the most commonly asked questions by mushroom growing beginners is "how do I grow morels?" It was my question as well, when I started years ago.

There are morel products marketed online which make claims such as "guaranteed to produce" and "contain millions of spores" or "spore seeds" or some similar language. These drop-shipped items are typically considered useless by folks who actually grow mushrooms. I'm quite serious. I've never known anyone that said they had luck with dry, sterilized seed coated in morel spores. Mention a morel kit or "morel seeds" on a mushroom growing forum and often the immediate response is "it's a scam!"

Mushroom growing is a passion for me and I'm a one person shop. The only things I sell are products that I actually do create and use myself.

Mushroom cultivators use liquid culture or grain spawn to grow mushrooms, not $12 seed packets from overseas. By comparison, my morel kit is a large, living block of mycelium that will grow rapidly and visibly inside the sealed bag. When it's ready, it is sown per the included directions.

My shop was built around me, providing straightforward information about my products directly to my customers. My reputation is in my Etsy store feedback. My kit is axenic Morchella grown on sterilized substrate. You can watch it grow.

Morels cannot be guaranteed to produce, and may bear fruit in time if the mycelium is able to establish where planted. While my indoor mushroom kits are guaranteed to produce, outdoor kits cannot be guaranteed to produce in all conditions.
